The dreaded words that no working mom wants to hear! Finally, a book to help our children understand why we leave for work, and why we love coming home. In a creative and thoughtful way, Ms. Ally brings to life the reality of being a working parent. Ms. Ally's successful career is powered by her family. She now shares her experience as a working parent through this loving children's book. --Natasha Burgert, MD Board-Certified Pediatrician Rhiannon Ally is the epitome of a dedicated mother and savvy businesswoman. As a colleague and a mother myself, I marvel at how she accomplishes both with such grace. I respect the honesty in which she discusses the challenge of balancing home and work life. This book beautifully addresses all the responsibilities placed on Mom while reassuring our children, they are always our priority regardless of where we are physically. --Alex Denis Morning Traffic Anchor, CBS New YorkIt's no surprise that Rhiannon Ally is the author of this book. She is a fiercely hard-working journalist and a gentle and caring mother. Women struggling with mommy guilt will learn from her and children will see that a mother's love knows no boundaries. As a child of a single, hard-working mom myself, I can t wait for Rhiannon's inspiring story to get out into the world. --Gio Benitez ABC News Correspondent"'I'll be there when you need me. I miss you when I'm away from you and will always come home.'" Being a working mom isn’t easy. Often, children don’t understand why mommies go to work rather than stay home with them all day. Children may even believe their behavior affects their mother’s decision to go to work. Ally explores this topic in her new book. The children, Leo and Lucie, try to find a way to keep their mother home with them. They are sad that she isn’t always there to play with them or pick them up from school. One morning, they clean up their playroom and are on their best behavior, but their mother still goes to work. Another morning, they throw food and misbehave, but, again, their mother must leave. However, when a bake sale at school goes awry, the children see how their mother’s job, and the jobs of many other moms, assist people in need. Many parents may find Ally’s book a helpful tool to start a conversation with their children about why they must go to work. The failing bake sale is a good illustration of why moms have careers and how these careers are important and benefit others, including the children and their school. Also, having mothers from various professions and diverse backgrounds helps include children who are looking in books to find families like their own. The book employs bold, clear illustrations, and the family dog stands out in the pictures, as it is drawn in a different and unique style. Parents struggling to explain leaving their children for a job will appreciate this book to initiate dialogue about this emotional topic.

I opened this book as soon as it arrived at my house. I never felt like being a stay at home mom was my calling, but mom guilt still gets me from time to time. "Am I spending enough time with her?" "Am I a good mom even though I work?" There are days I'd rather be home with my daughter than at work, but deep down I know I'm a better mom because I work. This book recognizes the important contributions that women make who work outside the home - doctors, lawyers, firefighters, reporters, and bakers. The illustrations pair wonderfully with the book. I also want to applaud the representation of women of color throughout the book. Well done!
I am not an mom. I have no idea what it must be like to look down at your child every day and go to work, even when they are begging you to stay. What struck me about this story, though, is all the strong women Rhiannon wrote about. There’s an underlying message here that is about more than just motherhood, at least in my eyes. As women in the workplace - and that workplace can be anywhere (the C suite, the classroom, the surgical unit, and yes, even at home if that’s what you choose) - we have incredible power to lift each other up and support each other...to make sure we all have a seat at the table. That way, and only that way, can we shape the little minds back at home...that they can some day do the same.
I’m so proud of Rhiannon for tackling this subject all working moms deal with. This book is relatable for moms and kids and sends the important message that no matter what our jobs are, our kids always come first. It’s not easy to explain to a young child why we do what we do. This book certainly helps and it shows that working moms can and are always the super heroes we don’t give ourselves credit for! Congratulations, Rhiannon.
This book is exactly what I had hoped for and needed it to be! Easy read with fun characters and a story that my daughter was able to relate too! I would recommend this book to all working moms and for teachers to keep in their classroom to help those who struggle with mommy having to go to work. This type of book is well over due in my opinion and really perfect for children of all ages!
I purchased this book to give as a gift to my God daughter who has a 2 year old son. There is such a need for this book, both for moms and their children. The emotions need to be addressed and communicated and this book helps start that discussion. I just love the fact that a pregnant mom with 2 pre schoolers and a full time demanding job took precious time to write this book. You can tell it is heart felt. So glad I ordered this. It would make such a great gift for working moms who might be struggling to find a balance.
Reading to my toddler at bedtime, he really likes the dog and cookies in it. I really like the sincere, subtle message that it has that moms go to work too. It's a sweet, happy storyline, with no dark parts. I bought one for myself and as a gift for another working mommy. Both dads and moms work hard, I want my kid to understand that at a young age.
I adore this topic- we need more books about working mothers trying to juggle it all! It was such a sweet story with a wonderful message- the illustrations were perfect and my two daughters age 5 and 2 loved the story! They asked for me to read it every night since it arrived!
I loved this, but my child loved it more. She loved the pictures and asks me to read it every night AND in the morning before I go to work.
