A lot of the reviews I read opine that this is their least favorite of the books so far. I really don't get it.I think this is the best so far. Weeks has really hit his stride in this series with the Broken Eye, and the book is just fantastic. Yes, it's a little more "inside", a little more politicky rather than actiony -- but not nearly as bad as some make it sound. It focuses a lot on Kip and Teia, and allows Weeks to really bring in and explore so many of the themes and ideas he's barely only hinted at in the first two books. And there are several great moments in the book that are just downright tearjerkers. The only reason I would recommend NOT reading this, is the end is a total headsplosion and it's going to be agony waiting for the next book.Overall I am loving this series and highly recommend it to anyone. (If you like Sanderson you will very much enjoy Weeks)

I bought the 4 book series after reading Weeks’ Shadow trilogy - which was fantastic! But this series contains such incredibly poor editing and proofreading I finally gave up on it halfway through the second book. I question whether or not Weeks even bothered with a proofreader. Example: using the phrase “on accident” when a character is speaking is one thing. But to use it as part of the narration is something altogether different. What’s fascinating to me is that the Lightbringer series was written AFTER the Shadow series. One would expect better writing and editing in newer work but in this case, it isn’t. There are a horrendous number of grammatical errors - and not ones used for character building. It almost seems like 2 different people wrote the 2 series. If you liked the “Shadows” series, stop there. The next series is among the worst edited books I’ve read in a long time.

Flawed but likable. Wanders unnecessarily like it's going to tilt into Moby Dick sidetracking for a while, but finishes dramatically in the second half.Editors could have substantially trimmed some of the first half that didn't particularly further the plot. So it goes. There's more than a bit of gratuitous violence/torture, but that's Weeks, and there are some genuinely droll macabre moments, as with Mr Sharp's smile. Most of the characters from earlier volumes are present and active, and although the Color Prince is largely absent, alas, the book takes care of a variety of staging and development to setup later collisions. The dialogue has a habit of blending into a common quip style, even when characters should speak distinctly, but one can easily suspend that disbelief as if it's a buffy universe with a certain themed speech style. Would recommend and will buy the follow-up.

“The Broken Eye” is the third installment in Brent Weeks “Lightbringer” series. This book picks up after the events of “The Blinding Knife” and continues the story. I have read some of the other reviews of the book and there are several that talk about this one being nothing more than a “filler” book and is a disappointment. I couldn’t disagree more. With this book, I feel Weeks has elevated the overall story quite a bit. I think this is the best of the three books. Weeks’ talent as an author and as a storyteller have never been in question, but with “The Broken Eye”, he has given us a depth of scale that I don’t know that I’ve read from him before. There are several twists and turns in this book that are so darn good that it’ll leave you with a huge smile on your face because you know that Weeks pulled one right by you. The ending is a cliffhanger and waiting for the next book is going to be torture.I’ve made comments in other book reviews that I believe Brandon Sanderson is the best in the genre, but with each release from Weeks, he continues to make sure his name is still in that conversation. This third book is fantastic. Extremely well done. A+

I have to preface this review by saying that I am a Brent Weeks fan and the Night Angel Trilogy was the most moving thing I've read in my life aside from the Chronicles of Narnia. The Lightbringer series is good, but just does not elicit the same emotional investment with its characters. The Broken Eye starts off strong, hints at some awesome concepts but drags SEVERELY in the middle. I feel like Brent was watching a lot of Pirates of the Carribean movies while writing. I was close to abandoning the book altogether if I was forced to muddle through one more pages-long description of a sea vessel or oar slaves, or one more ship-to-ship battle. The book gets back to pace in the final act and offers a lot of stunning and revelatory information that rightly could have been spread around this very slow ride a bit more. Looking forward to being rescued by the Blood Mirror.
