Great information and age appropriate. Wish it had experiments and the pages were in color. Like that the pages tear out. Not sure I would use this series again.

This book does not contain a disk with printable practice pages like the other two books I have ordered from the company. Very Frustrating. Customer Service has proved very unhelpful so far. May not continue to purchase from them as the technical issues are greatly interfereling with the quality and satisfaction of the product. The digital resources they are “moving towards” are not working for this homeschooling mom.

This series is great as a supplement to other homeschooling curriculums.

Somewhat to easy for my 6 yes old. But gets the job done and the point across. Child loves it

I finished this book in 4 sittings. It probably could have been less if I had the time. I did not want to put it down. Great story, with complex characters and twists. And it is not a book that is just for basketball fans. Basketball is just a part of the story, but nowhere near the whole thing.

Excellent read. Thought provoking. Page turner.

Like a great basketball game, this book is fast paced with lots of surprising turns that made it totally engrossing. There aren't many YA books that do this good a job exploring complicated male relationships. Ribay shows us the pressures put on Bunny and Nasir by their friends and family and how difficult it can be for them to communicate their need for help. While the basketball scenes are riveting, it's the story of how these friends challenge and support each other that really made this a page turner for me.

Randy Ribay has produced a truly engaging book, with two central characters who are both fully developed, conflicted and conflicting individuals--boys who run toward and away from their problems in different ways for different reasons. This is an original, thought provoking, thoroughly un-put-down-able book from start to finish.The plot summary you can find in other reviews and at the top of this page. All I'll add is that I read this over a weekend, and was fully invested in these two characters from the beginning. Ribay has constructed real and relatable and interesting boys with thoughts, worries, desires, and concerns that feel neither contrived nor trite. His plot develops seamlessly and cleanly, up to the end, and I found myself so engaged in the journey of both characters I couldn't stop reading until I finished the last word on the last page.

Couldn't put it down!

As a former junior high school English teacher, I am always on the lookout for books that will appeal to reluctant readers, books with a strong positive message and engaging, relatable characters. Randy Ribay's "After the Shot Drops" delivers on all accounts. Though basketball is an ongoing theme in this book, you do not have to have an in depth knowledge of the game to thoroughly appreciate the novel.Told in alternating chapters from the points of view of the two main characters, Bunny and Nasir, "After the Shot Drops" engages the reader at once. Bunny is a star basketball player who in tenth grade has been recruited to attend an exclusive Catholic school. His acceptance of this opportunity means that he must leave behind all his friends and teammates at Whitman High, the local public school. Nasir, also a player but not as talented as Bunny, is Bunny's best friend, but he has conflicting feelings about him: he is envious of Bunny's talent and opportunities, and he resents the fact that the girl on whom he has had a crush since junior high is now dating Bunny. Complicating matters is Nasir's slightly older cousin, Wallace, who is openly disdainful of Bunny and influences Nasir in a profoundly negative way. Though his difficult life circumstances may make some readers sympathize with him, Wallace is the closest thing to a villain in this book, and he precipitates a near tragedy toward the end.I loved the strong and realistic characters, not only Bunny, Nasir, and Wallace, but also Bunny's father, who operates an ethnic bookstore teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. The few female characters are a little more idealized, especially Keyona, Bunny's girlfriend, a strong, intelligent, and beautiful young black woman who is wise beyond her years. Though this is primarily a "boys' book," it will definitely appeal to girls as well. If I were still teaching, I would certainly teach this book, as there is so much to discuss in terms of values, friendship, honesty, and doing the right thing, even when it is hard. I recommend that parents and kids read this book together, as it will undoubtedly open the door to a number of good discussions.Highly recommended without reservation.

Ribay's novel is a fantastic, hard-to-put-down read. Told by alternating narrators, Bunny and Nasir, we see these two best friends drift apart, then back together as Bunny leaves their high school behind for an elite private school where he is the star of the basketball team.Nasir feels betrayed by Bunny leaving him behind, and is concerned for his cousin Wallace who is facing eviction. As he attempts to help Wallace, he begins to see that his cousin is in way over his head, yet he sticks with him.Bunny is seeing great success on the basketball court, but he doesn't feel accepted at his new school and questions his choice to leave his high school and friends behind.As Bunny's team continues to win game after game, moving ahead in the post-season playoffs, the stakes get higher for his team to win, and higher for Wallace, who is betting against Bunny's team. Nasir is caught in the middle, a tough place to be, as he wants to help both of his friends.Ribay's novel left me wanting to talk about it with someone, wanting to hand it off to my teen readers. Both Nasir and Bunny are characters you'll be rooting for and identify with, and even Wallace, with all of his problems, is someone you will feel for. This is a fantastic novel for both male and female readers and Ribay has perfectly captured the voices of teens and a situation that is complex and realistic. I loved that this is a sports book with depth and a bigger story than just winning or losing a game. I loved that Ribay incorporates literature and books into the story.This is a novel you won't want to miss!

Prof. Duane mixes his brilliant legal scholarship with his trademark humor in this brief overview of what to do when a police officer asks cheerfully, "You don't mind answering a few questions, do you?"The book shows how even the innocent - especially the innocent - should decline to talk to the police, and invoke their rights immediately. The book is an easy enough read that even someone with no legal background will understand it, but also offers insight for practicing attorneys.

Wow. I knew these tactics and techniques were used by law enforcement, I never knew how much simple statements could be woven into a guilty sentence for the most innocent. James Duane gives examples, case studies with excellent reference section that's also worth reading. I'd recommend this book to everyone but most especially to young people,teens, who may not be aware of their rights and the power of words.

First, the sensible truth of the matter. This was heartbreaking to read. Not for the many references to the cases, but for the careful citations that bear testament to this as a work of non-fiction. In my home of Honolulu, we have relatively good relations with our local law enforcement. I suppose that I'd taken for granted that because I didn't hear the details of injustices in my area that they were not commonplace.What James Duane lays out is a skillful and lively, yet sober glance at the world of prosecutorial discretion. I wasn't familiar with the concept very much before now. Insofar as I understand the basic premise, there are too many laws. Far more than any one practitioner of law can be expected to know, much less a layman like myself. Because of this, it leaves a discretion — a flexibility I can't say I feel is wholly compatible with our national notions of freedom — for law enforcement and prosecutors to be able to _find_ some kind of wrongdoing that can be prosecuted.I feel as though I've learned something valuable. The book couldn't have been shorter, because the gravitas would not have been there. Innocent people have gone to jail because they failed to make use of their protections against self-incrimination and before reading this I may have shared a bias against the invocation of the Fifth Amendment. Even if the instance is very rare, this is knowledge worth spreading more widely because of the dire consequences for ignorance.

A total eye-opener! I have never had any major interaction with police but as most of us, I would have believed that an honest explanation by an innocent person would suffice. Not true in many cases!I would highly recommend the book to anyone specially those that are minorities or who have teenage children. He opens the book with a statement commonly made by children of law enforcement officers, "Years ago, my parents explained to me that if I were ever approached by a law enforcement officer, I was to call them immediately, and they made sure that I would never agree to talk to police."Duane does not denigrate the police but he does make it clear that their job is to arrest any person who might be guilty.Be prepared, read the book and pass it on to your children or talk to them about possible encounters with police!

Many years ago I was interviewed in connection with a murder allegedly committed by a man my neighbor was weeing. I had no clue how dangerous that could have been for ME. This is a very important issue and I'm glad I bought this book. A quick read, lots of examples and justifications for the author's advice. A bit repetitious is my only complaint. "I want a lawyer." That simple, read the book to find out when and why those 4 words could save you a world of grief.

Very informative and an easy read. Every law-abiding citizen (yes law-abiding) should purchase this book. You get the impression that author a law professor respects the police, but understands there are some bad apples out there, he gives examples. And even the average person who wants to help them can get caught up in their lies, deceit and trickery. This is scary even if you have never broken the law. A must have for parents with a smart kid! I don't mean gifted, which your child may very well be (and this would be useful), but emotionally inteligent, inquisitive, and observant. It's for all those parents who just don't know what to do with their kid that is anxious, worried, or socially not getting it-be seem to "get it" in other areas. I am a professional counselor but when it comes to my own kids, it's a challenge, even with the education and experience! Why? Becuase my personal emotons and experiences are involved, and there is a unique family dynamic to each of our families. I found this book to be logical, practical, and useful-the tools are easy to implement. It's a wonderful book-I am impressed by the writer. I have already recommended to friends and it will recommended to parents of students who I work with.

This book was recommended to me by a friend of the author's and has been an extremely helpful read. Not only has it helped me understand where my kids' worries are coming from, but also how they process worry and how it manifests itself. I feel much more confident about how to parent my kids through their worries without unintentionally contributing to them. I've already purchased additional copies of this book for other members of my family.

There is some new jargon and certainly some inspiration. The first chapters are particularly well written - fitting in the digital industrial as a step towards the outcome economy and eventually the pull economy.Further into the book the discussion remains high level, and makes you wonder where those practical examples (those were promised) would show up. It stays consultant high level - like World Economic Forum talk. That's no coincidence as some of the book elements have been previously published by WEF (and can be downloaded for free). In some ways this is an update on the core message from Bill Gates - “Business @ the Speed of Thought”.In this case, Schaeffer outlines the vision for Automated Manufacturing & Industry, without ever getting to the “nuts & bolts”. Like many business consultants (Schaeffer is senior at Accenture), he seems to want to sell the vision, then only deliver the “secret sauce” once his consulting team gets paid.To be fair, this is complex stuff. Almost every chapter of this book requires a deep-dive into the Technical, Organizational, and Social details and implications.My business experiences have taught me that very often “the devil is in the details”. This book rarely acknowledges this concern. Still, it may serve as a useful roadmap for some industry leaders, as it illustrates connections and outlines priorities.

Rhiannon has covered tropical storms and bombings and interviewed celebrities from Madonna and Denzel Washington to Gloria Steinem and Caroline Kennedy, but her favorite role is mommy. I opened this book as soon as it arrived at my house. I never felt like being a stay at home mom was my calling, but mom guilt still gets me from time to time. "Am I spending enough time with her?" "Am I a good mom even though I work?" There are days I'd rather be home with my daughter than at work, but deep down I know I'm a better mom because I work. This book recognizes the important contributions that women make who work outside the home - doctors, lawyers, firefighters, reporters, and bakers. The illustrations pair wonderfully with the book. I also want to applaud the representation of women of color throughout the book. Well done!

I am not an mom. I have no idea what it must be like to look down at your child every day and go to work, even when they are begging you to stay. What struck me about this story, though, is all the strong women Rhiannon wrote about. There’s an underlying message here that is about more than just motherhood, at least in my eyes. As women in the workplace - and that workplace can be anywhere (the C suite, the classroom, the surgical unit, and yes, even at home if that’s what you choose) - we have incredible power to lift each other up and support each other...to make sure we all have a seat at the table. That way, and only that way, can we shape the little minds back at home...that they can some day do the same.

I’m so proud of Rhiannon for tackling this subject all working moms deal with. This book is relatable for moms and kids and sends the important message that no matter what our jobs are, our kids always come first. It’s not easy to explain to a young child why we do what we do. This book certainly helps and it shows that working moms can and are always the super heroes we don’t give ourselves credit for! Congratulations, Rhiannon.

This book is exactly what I had hoped for and needed it to be! Easy read with fun characters and a story that my daughter was able to relate too! I would recommend this book to all working moms and for teachers to keep in their classroom to help those who struggle with mommy having to go to work. I purchased this book to give as a gift to my God daughter who has a 2 year old son. There is such a need for this book, both for moms and their children. The emotions need to be addressed and communicated and this book helps start that discussion. I just love the fact that a pregnant mom with 2 pre schoolers and a full time demanding job took precious time to write this book. You can tell it is heart felt. So glad I ordered this. It would make such a great gift for working moms who might be struggling to find a balance.

Reading to my toddler at bedtime, he really likes the dog and cookies in it. I really like the sincere, subtle message that it has that moms go to work too. It's a sweet, happy storyline, with no dark parts. I bought one for myself and as a gift for another working mommy. Both dads and moms work hard, I want my kid to understand that at a young age.

I adore this topic- we need more books about working mothers trying to juggle it all! It was such a sweet story with a wonderful message- the illustrations were perfect and my two daughters age 5 and 2 loved the story! They asked for me to read it every night since it arrived!

I loved this, but my child loved it more. She loved the pictures and asks me to read it every night AND in the morning before I go to work.

A good read but really not as good as the first. The plot was just too OTT with motives and suspects whilst the characters just seemed a tad off from the first book. Okay we all want to better ourselves but she was willing to ' sell her soul to the devil ' to do so. Frankly I thought the main character had more integrity and moral standards for that (at least that the impression I got from the first book).A new cruise and she's been assigned to make sure that only the most positive aspects of life and the celebrity they had on board to shine through. A celebrity chef who was going to give demonstrations and classes. His wife however was acting like Cruella de Vil on speed. There was a stalker involved too and the personal friend of the Director. A murder, a poisoning, attacks and a falling out are just some of the antics that occur. But will they lead to the killer?

This is the second book in an A. R. Winter's series with characters and a cruise ship setting that I enjoy. While each book is totally a stand alone, there are several hints to keep the reader wanting to read the next in the series. Naturally, I want to know why CeCe has a master key for the entire she and what happened last summer on Adrienne's road trip. The plot for this book was clear and the murderer's motivation was reasonable. I do wonder if there will be a murder to solve on every cruise.

I liked the characters of Adrienne and Cece. They are adventurous and try to solve the mystery of who killed the cruise director’s friend. There is a romance budding between Adrienne and Ethan. What was strange and seemed out of character was that Adrienne was thinking of working for a mentally ill contolling wife of a chef. Very odd - no real explanation given. No answer either to postcards left for her about last summer.

Another fun cruise with Adrienne and the crew! This time it's a Celebrity Chef cruise with cooking classes and demonstrations. Sounds like fun until someone gets murdered. Adrienne just has to look into it and winds up almost getting killed herself. Very entertaining cozy!I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Though being only the second book in this we series, I’m definitely a big fan. Adrienne has the sleuthing bug and she’s good at it. Her friends are hilarious, the things they get into definitely add the humor. She has a very slight romance brewing and I enjoy their scenes together. The mystery was great and I loved reading it!

I really enjoy the light reading of cozy mysteries, especially when they involve Cruise Ships. I particularly enjoyed the humor laced throughout this book. I enjoyed AR Winters style of writing and the characters involved. If you like Cozy Mysteries, I highly recommend this book.

Very easy read if you like mystery books. A.R. Winters delivers a light easygoing style that keeps you coming back for more. Addy, Cece, and Sam make me laugh not only the the antics they get up to but the twists their love lives take. Just make her the cruise director already :)

The second in the series didn’t disappoint! I love the high jinks they get up to as they stumble to figure out who did it! It is refreshing to have a good clean mystery that not only keeps you guessing but has you laughing along the way! Love all of A.R. winters books that I have read!

I'm experiencing my first black lab so this book was helpful with tips on training and giving me ideas on how to keep her interested. She has really learned to appreciate the water in the lake and river nearby.

279 pages of detailed information with NO INDEX. A good book otherwise, but you should know that although there is a Table of Contents, THERE IS NO INDEX. So, good luck finding info on "teething" (or whatever) unless you want to page through the book. This is a cheap shortcut used by publishers who are perfectly aware that they're not providing what is reasonably expected in a book of this type.

We were given a lab that was found as a stray. He has strong urges to hunt and run. It was interesting to me, among other things that this is common to labs and that it takes at least 4 months to get them acclimated to a new environment. For young and old dogs alike, this book covers it all.

Thank you to Linda for this comprehensive look at the Labrador Retriever. She's been able to gather many experts in the breed from two countries to help educate both the new people and the old hands in the breed. I recommend this book and have purchased copies to give as gifts to people with new Labrador puppies in the family.

We are long time Lab owners and are current Lab, Wrigley is #8 for us. After having Labs for a long time, we thought we knew a lot about the breed, but Linda has written a really great book that all Lab owners and lovers should keep on their book shelf. Even though Labs are an awesome breed, they are also complicated, so it's always a good just to pick up the book and learn things about the breed that we never knew before. We highly recommend this book, great work Linda Whitwam!!!

My husband and I, along with our pastor and his wife and another long-married couple in our church, do a yearly group with engaged couples, to discuss issues they will encounter in their first year of marriage. I read this book to see if it would be a good one to give to all the girls who go through our “marriage prep” group, and was super happy to see so much helpful stuff in one place. I will definitely be handing it out to the girls!! However, not without some comments and probably some parts blacked out. Here are a few concerns:I HATE THE TITLE. The concept of good girls vs. bad girls is so wrong. I understand how the author is using those terms, but I just feel like it’s an unfortunate choice, and not nearly as powerful as what I think the real concept is: counter-culture sex. We need to reform and recapture sex as something that God made to be an expression of love and unity, and a picture of Christ and the Church. This is for all those strong women who want God’s best for their marriage and family, including sex. It contains lots of wisdom for helping us navigate the errors of our culture and some common errors found in Christian sub-culture, and “good girl/bad girl” just doesn’t do that concept justice.Then there are the “Good Girl Dares.” I put black tape over most of these. It’s not that I object to anything they suggest (nothing suggested is “dirty” or wrong) – it’s the fact of suggesting that I object to. Here are three reasons why, written to an engaged girl:The first is just the fun that you would miss out on of coming up with these things on your own. Some of them you will think of within your first year. Others maybe not ‘til your tenth. Still others, maybe never, but then – what will you really be missing, if you’re satisfied with your relationship 25 years from now, and are still growing in love for each other? So take the time to come up with your own little games, flirts, special sex treats – you don’t need a cleaned-up version of Cosmopolitan magazine.Second, there is the danger of a sensitive woman, eager to please her man, feeling pressure that she has to be willing to do all these things in order to be a good lover. And thinking that if she doesn’t feel comfortable with one or more of them there’s something wrong with her or she’s a prude. Remember that this author has nearly twenty five years of learning and getting more comfortable with her husband. Why shouldn’t you have the chance to learn over time and at a pace that suits you, too?Third, any young husband who reads these suggestions will likely want to try every one of them. This week. There could be the temptation for a man to feel discontented if his sex relationship isn’t there yet, or if his wife isn’t ready for something that sounds quite good to him. Which will only make his wife feel more pressure, and PRESSURE IS THE ENEMY OF GOOD SEX.If you ever find yourself in the position of wanting some suggestions for spicing up your love life, first ask your husband. In fact, I can't emphasize enough - START TALKING FROM DAY ONE about what you and he each want, what feels good, what you might like but aren’t sure (and feel free to change your mind!) If you ever feel like you need more ideas, order an unaltered copy of the book. My guess is that, with lots of time and trust and learning to be more vulnerable with each other, a book of ideas won’t be necessary. But some people do find them helpful, and this one is certainly better than Sheet Music (a popular Christian book that is chock-full of tons of pressure, I mean suggestions from an old pro) or Cosmo.The last change I’ve made is to add underlines and notes. I found this book to be a real gift to women – very straight-forward and open. Much of what we try to tell girls in marriage prep is here, where they can read it in private. However, the author is not as careful to balance some of her statements as I would like her to be, especially for that sensitive, eager-to-please woman I mentioned earlier. That woman sometimes needs to have the pressure taken off preemptively. So I make some balancing notes in addition to underlining some things I think are excellent and helpful.Overall, this is a winner. But I feel like it needs a bit of an overhaul – get rid of the title (and its repetition of the good/bad girl theme throughout the book) and the “dares,” and it would be 75% better.

OMG! I would recommend this book to any girl getting married or to young married couples- even to couples who have been married a while! I read this book right before I got married, being I was a virgin and marriage would be all new territory for me, and it helped answer so many questions in a modest, biblical way, yet showed you ways that you could have fun in the bedroom and not feel guilty about it. It helped me realize that sex in marriage is amazing and wonderful and beautiful. I will definitely be buying this book over and over to give to my friends before they get married.

As the wife of a youth pastor as at a local community church, my husband and I regularly facilitate pre-marital counseling together for young couples whom he's officiating for. I found this book when doing some research, so that I could provide better answers for the brides I have a "talk" with. I wish I found this book years ago. It would have helped me answer girls questions better as well as given them a good resource to get their questions answered. Even though I've been married almost 13 years, I still enjoyed the book and found it encouraging for my marriage in general. Its a Christian book, with a solid Christian view of marriage, but she definitely has a "free in Christ" position on sex, which may make some of her suggestions shocking to conservatives. My husband and I will be celebrating our 5 yr Anniversary this December. And I am already at the point where our “sex life” is very stale. He wants it, I want to get it over with. There has got to be more to sex then this!!! Let me tell you, this book has been a God send; where before I was thinking, “ why does he need it so much? How can I get out of it tonight?” I am putting to practice ideas from this book, the “Good Girl Dares” in this book really made me step out and light my own fire for my husband.I also read certain parts to my husband that I wanted to discuss with him. He himself enjoyed those discussions. Even if you are single and getting ready to be married, I wish I had had this book, it would have saved me some heartache around years 3 and 4 of my marriage.
