I first tasted Quin hard candies and caramels few years ago when a friend of mine gave me as a gift from Portland. She loved these caramels so much, she decided to give as a gift. So when I saw this book at Amazon - I was looking for a book that had techniques, methods and unique flavor gourmet combinations made into caramels, hard candies and lollipops. Jami explains how the ingredients play an important role and the recipes that make great candies. If you want to get intense fruit flavors - roast your fruits with lemon juice (fresh and counterbalance the sweetness), granulated sugar & vanilla bean (gives another flavor dimension) and they are many more! I am glad this baker is passionate on what she does making candy, being creative on her flavor combinations and the techniques have been adapted for today's times or I should say "modern". A excellent small guide, recipes and great passion for candy making. Quin is also a great candy store in Portland. So yes, Portland has a great food history, culture and there are all sorts of foods you can try before you die. Make this one candy shop on your food bucket list.

What a beautifully written, photographed and illustrated book. The recipes make what can oftentimes be intimidating, easy and inspirational. Using real ingredients and covering all the basic techniques, I am already finding this is a go-to mainstay in my kitchen. I've even found my daughter reading it page by page whilst making a list of sugary sweet concoctions she wants to make together in our kitchen. The perfect gift for those sweet-toothed friends in your life; I've already bought several to give as gifts- truly special (coffee-table worthy) and so far, everyone has LOVED it. Highly recommend this work of art!

Wonderful!! Clear concise, pretty to look at while you are reading- she really walks you through what you need to do- it's great. I got the kindle version and it works well to have on my kindle while I am baking... good stuff! :)

By some cosmic quirk of fate, the illustrious collective known as Magnum Photographers had one of their big meetings in New York City on Monday, September 10th, 2001. This means, of course, that when the horrific events of Tuesday, September 11th took place, there were dozens and dozens of superbly qualified and talented photographers all over the city. As if by reflex, these brave women and men documented the events of that day.The photographs get first consideration here. There is text, of course, but the photographs tell the story. It's difficult to look through the book and not feel as though you were there yourself. Witness Steve McCurry's triptych of the second tower coming down, looking for all the world like a dying flower, the smoke almost appearing like drooping petals curving down towards the earth (p. 8). Witness Susan Meiselas' photograph of one of those life-size statues you see hither and yon in Manhattan--this one of a cheerfully smiling businessman seated on a bench, opening up his briefcase to check on something. He is knee-deep in debris, and trees behind and beside him are crushed and bent (p. 30). The juxtaposition perfectly captures the sense of disconnectedness and inability to understand that we all felt that day. Witness Eli Reed's enormously moving photo of a construction worker wielding only a hammer. The man sits on a steel beam, hard hat on, booted feet tucked behind him. When you look beyond his hammer, you see the physical devastation all around him--yet there he sits, hammering as though he will make a difference (p. 104). Witness Gilles Peress' shots of shocked people appearing out of the snowy dust, accompanied by his simple and heartfelt statement: "I don't trust words. I trust pictures" (pp. 46 - 63)."New York September 11" is an astonishing and heartbreaking photographic documentary of that day. I recommend it as a record for your children and yourself.

The book is a suitable supplement to one's books on September 11.It contains few of the newspaper and magazine photographs that became the official historial record of the catastrophe. Instead, it features the work of free-lancers who had to work without the benefit of helicopters, film crews, and satellite imaging. The result is a startling portrait of the disaster's impact on spectators and the neighborhoods around New York.Magnum has captured the best photographs available anywhere of the actual ruins -- twisted steel and concrete, towering piles of rubble, nearby buildings shattered and on fire, streets buried in ash and singed paper. This advantage over other books came, perhaps, at an ethical cost: Photographers snuck past cordons and disobeyed police orders in order to capture the aftermath on film. The book doesn't say it, but some photographers (not necessarily those in the book) were arrested.This book doesn't contain the key photographs that came to define the event, but it's a more-than-worthy supplement to such a book. And it's a vivid reflection of the obstacles and opportunities that photojournalists encounter in covering breaking news.

The strength of this book rests in the images that it archives and the intuitive connections in the layout. The composition draws you though THAT HORRIBLE DAY moment by moment and image by image.My wife and I were struck by the eerie familiarity of the pictures presented. Like most of America we sat stunned/horrifed/mesmerized by the electronic hum of the television on September 11th. However, too much of all of what we saw fell back into our subconscious and brought us to a nice and safe numb.This book brought back the elemental terror of that day and summoned back the images in such a way so that we can honestly say, we will never forget.This is a fine book.

I bought this book because I wanted to complete the two book set. I had bought the other one years ago and loved it.Quality is there, pictures are great, makes a lifetime of memories for New York. Great to have when the grandkids will beolder and studying about it in school.Wonderful keepsake to keep for ever....

Gripping and fascinating.

I bought this book for my brother for Christmas and he was speechless as he looked through the incredible photos. The book was passed around during our Christmas eve family celebration and everyone was moved by the pictures. My sister kept remarking she should have known about this book because she would have given it for gifts, also. I particularly like the end of the book which shows photos of the Trade Center in its glory days and the true way we should remember it. I highly recommend this book. It is a keepsake, not just a coffee table piece.

Another great book to cover a day that we shall never forget.

I am a Bob Marley fan but have always admired and felt sorry for Rita. He was a handsome and complex man that made women come running. Rita was always there because of her position(s). I always wondered how she was able to take it all so gracefully - well this is the book that tells the greatest story ever. It's a story of life, love, sorrow, joy, success, and much much more. I'm so grateful to the one and only MRS Marley for letting us in by writing this book. I could not put it down. She had endure some pain and disrespect by some heartless ******! Oh but look who is still standing and where she is standing. Rita - you are an inspiration to me,and it is my hope to meet you face to face one day.

A riveting depiction of "the other side" of Nesta Robert Marley's life by his wife. I read the book in just 2 sittings, though I agree with a reviewer that Mrs. Marley glossed over a lot, most likely to preserve her husband's reputation as the true Legend of Reggae, and which I understand, as the book is about her life with him. I'm a West Indian woman who also started out as a single Mom so I can relate to Rita's courage, determination, and strength to survive and discover herself. I was ~17 when Bob Marley became an international Reggae Icon, and I'm still a fan of his music, as well as his sons, especially Ziggy, Stephen, and Damian (Junior Gong).

I love the Marley family and this book is a page turner. It gives a great insight on the life of a celebrity wife and mom. I definitely have a greater level of respect for Mrs. Marley.

As a young girl growing up in the Caribbean,I've heard all the praise surrounding Bob Marley,became a fan of his music and of his kids music but never knew much about Rita.Reading her story was an emotional rollercoaster as I've seen many of my older female family members line after line.Big up Rita,she's a gem.

Beautiful intimate look at Rita and Bob's life. Much more descriptive than the Marley documentary, which was also well done. I would recommend this book to all that love Bob and his music, or those wanting to know more about him. Rita is an inspiration, such a strong and beautiful spirit.

This is Rita’s story. Is essential reading for her side of the story of life with Bob. Don’t come looking for any Illuminating Bob stories there are none. If you are reading other Marley bios throw this one in the mix, for a perspective.

I have read this book several times and bought a copy for several friends. It is a great read, I love getting to know Rita Marley and I love getting to know more about Bob Marley from her perspective (so many other perspective already published) it was refreshing. I also loved reading a more personal telling of Rastafari in Jamaica.

It lacked depth regarding how Rita really felt about Bob's infidelities that she somehow survived. I was hoping to get that understanding from her book but it wasn't there. I also wanted to know more about Bob's treatment in Germany and what he had to say as he was transitioning but that was missing also. Outside of that I enjoyed the book, the history provided and wish Rita continued success with her journey in this life.

Thank you for this. I was putting off doing the research for Medicare as I am very busy with grand-kids and retirement. I simply needed to know what my plan options are, and this guide provided just that. Very easy to understand without being bogged down with thousands of pages of information.

Poorly written with lots of typos and confusion sentences. Figures are blurry and unreadable. I read it cover to cover but now looking again for something better.

This is the perfect book for anyone wanting to understand the often puzzling programs of Social Security and Medicare.

Very basic information. Easy to read but gives you minimal information. Inorrect information on cost of Medicare B depending on income it can cost over $400/ month. Cost ranges “$134/ month to $400+/ month depending on last 2 years income. Short quick read but not worth the $20 cost. There are many web sites with same information for free! Not worth the money I feel author wrote this to make money giving no real value. Try Medicare web site.

Actually only 72 pages. The pages are all double spaced with large margins and breaks between paragraphs. Not much information or details. Would not recommend this book to anyone.

The opening examples of bright and educated people that struggled for years to understand the baffling Medicare system assured me that I wasn't an idiot and it takes research, time and reliable resources not connected to a certain provider to help wade through this overwhelming mass of data and (quite frankly) idiocy in the infrastructure of the plan.I also bought Medicare 101 as a preparation for this more detailed book.Didn't want to read it, haven't finished it, but glad I bought it for information. It's so true when the author says, "it's what they don't tell you."

This is a great book, but in fact you will need a previous knowledge and experience to go deeply inside it. The author wrote a brief but excellent lines about some of the most essentials points of Highest Yoga Tantra: generation and completion stages, divine pride, 4 joys, differences about illusory bodies, renunciation, compassion, wisdom, clear light, etc. Rather, in the final part, Daniel Cozort compares Kalachakra and Guhyasamaja stages of completion. This is not a book that deeply discusses the matter, neither a list of sadhanas practices, but its a stunning map for those who have some experience on the Highest Yoga Tantra or it could be a great reference and introduction about it.

As other reviewers have noted, this is a fine overview of the topic. I only wish to add, because it may be of interest to some readers and is not discernable from the promotional material, that Cozart discusses the matter entirely from the Geluk perspective. Readers interested in Sakya and Kagyu perspectives will have to look elsewhere.

A book to help understand and practice in High Yoga Tantra. I recommend.

very clear and precise...a must read for those interested in this subject.

Very illuminating and detailed, and yet clearly presented

On 21 June 2003 I attained enlightenment after many years of practice. The moment was not presaged, but was a natural result of what I was doing at the time. This book actually provides a very direct description of much of what happened to me, including syllables related to different stages of the breath that were entoned by me, and done in a spontaneous fashion. This book is the first that I have encountered that is an accurate description of my practice, and of the moments that led to the Momentous Moment. I found a nearly one-for-one correspondence between what happened to me, and what is written in this translation.The exceptions to this are the deity yoga prepatory stages described in the book. I have extensive experience studying Buddhist texts, especially vajrayana and esoteric Buddhism, and though it may be anathema to say it, I think the prepatory steps, as formally described in the book, do not need to be done exactly as described. I am guessing that they were designed by monastic communities to accomplish two things: a) instill in the practitioner's mind concentration and insight - which can be developed in many, many, many different ways (and which are the critical factor), and not just through spectacular visualization abilities; and probably more importantly, b) to ensure that only the truly serious would have the latter parts of the technique revealed to them since development of the visualization abilities is indeed daunting.

I can't really agree with the many glowing reviews here. Certainly there is some interesting information within this book, and a huge variety of practices are mentioned... But the author himself concedes the book will be "mainly an outline or overview," and I'd have to say that in my opinion it is SOLELY an outline or overview. The book is little more than a 130-page list of various practices, stages, and definitions of the two former --- all of them according solely to the Gelukpa point of view, and none of them with nearly enough detail or information to actually be practiced. So where is the real value? The information may be accurate but it is of little, if any, practical value to a practitioner, except perhaps as a bird's eye view 'roadmap' as one reviewer suggested.I was disappointed that there is little real scholarship going on here. As Cozort is allegedly a Western scholar of Tibetan Buddhism, and not a monk, I think it is incumbent upon him to add some critical analysis, of some kind, to the material presented. Instead, it is all simply presented as is, without any reflection on what is being said. Actually I don't think there is a single original thought or insight of any kind (by Cozort, that is) throughout the entire book.Not really recommended.
