The editor should be ashamed. There were paragraphs repeated word-for-word on the same page, and incorrect words as if auto-correct was running the show.Most disappointing was that the answer key was wrong at least 3 times. This is not acceptable when a student is supposed to rely on this as true and accurate information. I verified with my instructor when I started to second-guess myself, and she confirmed the first answer I questioned was incorrect. After that, I didn't waste her time. I just understood that this book was poorly edited and trusted my answers instead.

Please check the edition. Most courses requires the fifth edition that comes with a one time use code. If you guys are serious on HIT or HIM (medical coding) buy it new

The information in the book is not consistent, and many of the answers in the answer keys are wrong. Being a student, I need to be able to utilize my text book, but instead I am now just confused and stressed out. Even though it's required, I would skip buying the book. Utilize online resources.

This book is awful. It's hard to read and there are a lot of grammatical/editing errors. There has to be a better written book out there for HIT/HIM classes.

I was not really familiar with the works of Shostakovich, but having been to Saint Petersburg several times and speaking with people about the siege of Leningrad, I thought the book would provide an interesting read. It more than delivered on this and I found it hard to put down. The photographs contained in this book are truly fantastic and not just a bunch of blurry indistinguishable ones. The story was both fascinating and moving, while at the same time giving me a new level of respect and appreciation for the residents of Leningrad, while showing how despicable the communist leaders truly were. It was also eye opening to learn about how this seventh symphony was played all over the world and universally understood. Even the Nazi soldiers (some of them) when they heard this symphony being played on loud speakers throughout the city understood that they would never be able to win this city, while also understanding that rather than the subhuman Slavs that they had been told lived there by Hitler that only the strongest and most human of humans could produce such music after such a prolonged siege and period of starvation. I had a SPB resident tell me this past summer about her father as a child and his evacuation from Leningrad during the siege. She spoke to me about the dangerous trip across the lake in the middle of winter. To then read about this "Road of Life" within the book in great detail, brought the earlier story I heard into much sharper detail. It was a good book that I hated to see end, although it is not a short one. After reading this book I bought the symphony to listen to and found the whole experience very enlightening after understanding the circumstances that surrounded its birth.

Wow. Seriously. Wow. This is an exquisitely written book, filled with such power and emotion that it moved me to tears on several occasions. The depth of the research and the honesty with which it is presented is impressive, and kudos to the author for this. I'm not really a huge non-fiction person, and I pretty much never read about war, but this one blew me out of the water. I don't give out five star ratings very often, but this one absolutely deserved it. The proof? Not only did I actually go out and buy the book, but I also bought a recording of the complete symphonies of Shostakovitch. I can't stop thinking about this book, even days later. Read it. You won't regret it.

Ostensibly this is a book for younger readers, perhaps for High School Advanced Placement English, Music or History students. This unassuming book however can hold its own in terms of pure scholarship. I am a subscriber to DSCH, and own every book I've been able to get my hands on on the life and music of Dmitri Shostakovitch, beginning with "Testimony", as told by Shostakovitch to Solomon Volkov and and New York Times journalist Harrison E. Salisbury's "The 900 Days:The Siege of Leningrad." A superb story teller, M.T. Anderson has created the most fully integrated book on Shostakovitch life & times thus far. There are those who consider Shostakovitch to be Gustav Mahler's heir apparent as master of the Symphonic form. We can only wish that someday a writer will come to the fore such as Henri-Louie de LaGrange did for the life & music of Mahler, & will write the definitive book(s) on Shostakovitch. For readers young AND old, Anderson's book will breath life into the story of this tormented soul who was the 20th Centuries most versatile composer.

M.T. Anderson is one of my favorite authors ever, young adult or otherwise, serious or silly. His "Feed" changed my entire perspective on our online world — and I was 42 at the time — and his "Jasper Dash and Flame-Pits of Delaware" is still one of the funniest books I've ever read. When I saw that he had written a book about one of my favorite composers ever, I one-clicked that puppy faster than you can blink. I was not disappointed.I knew the general story of Shostakovich's 7th Symphony, of his composing it during the Siege of Leningrad and what a splash it made across the world at the time, but Anderson presents an unbelievably detailed history of Shostakovich's early life in Leninist Soviet Union, Stalin's brutal reign, the war and the siege, and through it all, Shostakovich's composition of his huge 'war' symphony. It's a complete picture of an utterly foreign world to us, and Anderson brings it all round to the importance of art/music and how it keeps us human even in the worst of times. I was very sorry to see the book end.

I am a classical music lover and I thought this book was outstanding. The author provides the background of what is going on in Russia as it impacts on composer, Dmitri Shostakovich. I had no idea of the torments the Russian people went through as things in the country went from imperial rule to that of Lenin and then Stalin. In America, we hear much about the persecution of the Jews by Germany, but not about the thousands of Russians who were starved, sent to labor camps, tortured, shot, etc. The City of Leningrad was under siege for over a year while bombed and blockaded by the Germans. Shostakovich's 7th symphony (the Leningrad) was played all over the world and even by an orchestra of starving musicians within the city. It brought feelings of solidarity and hope to those who heard it.

Holy cow! Where to start? Suffice it to say that I do believe it helps if you are a bit familiar with military doctrine and international politics and diplomacy. This latest in a series of five books by Campbell builds on the earlier ones and, read as a standalone, might be a little challenging at spots because there isn't a lot of explanation. That said, the idea of a Russian coup, cyberwar against the US, and the need to sort things out quickly rang, unfortunately, true in the heated atmosphere of today. Good characters, if briefly sketched, in this plot driven thriller made it a surprisingly good read for me as it's not my usual genre (although I did read and very much Ice Station Nautilus) . Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Lots of action and some stuff to think about.

She agrees.The mission is another trip to Russia, involving another nuclear arms treaty and of course the Russians have not been idle, they have been working on a weapon that will make some of the U.S. arsenal useless.The Russians wait until O’Conner is in Russia, then stage a coup while she is with the Russian President. She and the Russian President spend a good deal of time getting away from, avoiding the ‘bad guys’ while the U.S. works its way out of its problems.Everything is resolved more or less satisfactorily and the author opens up a whole new avenue of adventure for Christine O’Conner.As stated earlier, this work is another ‘page turner’, very highly recommended, it is available on Amazon.The reviewer, Thomas W. Leo, CPP, is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The continuing characters are clearly presented and compelling, each in their own way. The plot moves along swiftly and the suspense just keeps on adding up! No sense in doing a recap as the publisher's blurb is a good teaser, and other reviewers have done it to death.Bottom line is that this is an intense read probably aimed at a particular kind of geek but totally engrossing to any thrill junkie (hand in air here). Yes, it is hardly first in series and might bother some readers, but they'd probably complain about Cussler, too. Personally, I loved it and will read others by this author soon.I requested and received a free ARC from St Martin's Press.

The only way for America to stop Russia from reclaiming part of the former Soviet Union is to rescue their deposed president and create a countermeasure to once again allow the use of missles. Perhaps you live in a large city. If not, you have certainly wondered about life there. “Triumph Of the City” answers all your questions: why they succeed (educated/skilled people and diverse industries); why they fail (not enough entrepreneurs and one dominant industry); why they look so different (do people mostly walk? Drive? Take the bus?); what are sprawl's benefits (space and time) and costs (pollution.) You find out why in a city you are more likely to eat gourmet food, be pick-pocketed, or meet your ideal mate. You also make counter-intuitive discoveries: the movement against building in the coastal California actually makes the world browner, not greener. I greatly admire Edward Glaeser. He revived the field of urban economics, almost single-handedly. He has investigated every aspect of city life. He masters theory, statistics, and history. He is not ideological. All his qualities transpire here. Yet The book reads easily. The economics and statistics are clearly explained. Examples abound: New York, Detroit, Houston, Milan, Mumbai, Rio, and then some. As a non-ideologue, Glaeser heaps both scorn and praise on both markets and governments. Want to make house affordable? Let developers build up and out (in passim he criticizes the “eyes on the street” theory.) Do not look down on suburbia: many embraces it because life is cheaper and better than in the center. But you need governments to take care of public health, congestion and global warning. Glaeser endorses water utilities, congestion taxes and some infrastructure. He lambasts the mortgage-interest deduction, most building restrictions (including for Conservancy and Preservation) and most efforts at urban renewal, like conference centers.) On the eternal struggle over the merits of centralized versus decentralized government he takes a middle ground: different levels are needed to look over each others' shoulders. I appreciated such nuanced views This is the best pop-econ book I have read. Highly recommended

This book is a hymn to the civic value and importance of city life...For it is Glaeser's contention that it is city life, where smart people gather to live and work, that is the mother of invention, productivity and entrepreneurship and that these three factors, above all, are the sine qua non of great cities and great civic life.Yes, successful cities need other basic things like clean water, good schools, alert and aggressive policing, an abundance of good housing options, safe and attractive public places, and a pro business, pro development public sector, but it is the gathering together in close proximity of large numbers of bright, entrepreneurial people that is the ultimate life-source of great urban living....Ultimately, for Glaeser, it is great wealth that makes for great cities. New York, Boston and Houston are - each for partially different reasons - the exemplar cities of his thesis. LA,though he doesn't say it, would seem to be the anti-city of his thesis.This is a wonderful book..full of engaging and interesting facts...that builds to a compelling thesis about the value and importance of great cities, and of the bedrock foundational conditions underlying their greatness..

Glaeser writes extremely well for an economist. The book offers plenty of data and statistics, yet they are offered in a easy to comprehend way and without ruining the pleasant rhythm of the book.The book might be seem a bit outdated, yet it still rings true on most topics. Would love to hear more from Glaeser on the current state of San Francisco and Seattle.Last, the author makes some compelling arguments for high rise buildings, but I am still not giving up on old buildings.

This book offers some interesting narrative on the history of cities, but Glaeser's arguments about the importance of cities in the modern world fall a little flat. His historical perspective is compelling, largely due to the fact that he is able to give real life examples of cities throughout history to bolster his narrative. The main gist of his argument is that cities bring people together, and it is only because of this that civilization can advance. While this might have been true historically, I do not necessarily believe that this will remain true of civilization in the future.For example, he argues that telecommunication and technology cannot replace face-to-face interaction, but this is not necessarily true. More and more people work from home, and some studies have demonstrated that these people are actually more productive than those who are in a face-to-face office environment. I think that this type of interaction will become more pronounced as technology advances, eventually eliminating the need for a centralized office environment altogether.Glaeser is more successful with his economic arguments, which makes sense, since he is an economist. However, he relies too heavily on correlation to prove his points, and we all know that correlation does not necessarily equate to causation. When he delves into environmentalism, his arguments just seem tacked on and unsupported in order to add a PC chapter on climate change. How stuffing more and more people into an urban setting without addressing the underlying problem of population growth makes little sense. His arguments are solely based upon carbon emissions as the issue.Overall, this is not a bad book, but it is not a great book either. The historical bits are more interesting than the persuasive bits. It is a bit longer than necessary and jumps around without clear structure. I also have a major issue with him not directly citing his sources throughout the book via footnotes or endnotes. Instead, he has a section of sources at the end that aren't linked to anything in particular, so actually fact-checking some of his statistics or suppositions is a fairly difficult endeavor, as if he were intentionally trying to obfuscate his sources.

Great reference books with overviews and directions for SharePoint Foundation 2010, there were many to chose from, but given the reviews by others and glancing through some of the previews, this seemed like the winner. It seemed to touch on the most common topics that one would be looking for in order to use designer successfully. I purchased this for setting up worksite, and its been a great source of information.The directions/instructions/screenshots are very informative and easy to follow to help guide you through the different processes. Would highly recommend.

More and more companies ar eusing sharepoint as a document storage depository for documentation. Particularly IT departments use it. I purchased this book when I realized that there are many more applications for the Sharepoint than just document depository. I will not pretend I know how to create surveys or build department web sites in Sharepoint, but if the organization has a good business analyst who can do this, it brings incredible value to the organization. It is one of the must have applications fo rthe most large scale organizations that are looking ot have collaborative teams in matrixed environment.

Using this product to set up a SharePoint site at work. This is an older version of SharePoint so was glad I could find a book with the information I was looking for, at a reasonable price. The book is used but in excellent condition (like new).

I am a SharePoint Project Manager who does a lot of SharePoint training, and I highly recommend this book to new users. It is accurate and easy to follow, and is very non-intimidating to new SharePoint users. I highly recommend it without hesitation.

I've been vegan for almost four years and have a small collection of plant-based nutrition books and cookbooks, but had never bought an Engine 2 book before. I picked this up at a friend's suggestion (she had told me about the free Facebook support group) and because I had seen some of the recipes in the daily emails the Engine 2 group sent, and am so glad I did. If you're new to plant-based eating, there is a lot to learn here, but even if you're been vegan for awhile, this has really good advice for moving to a whole-foods diet, and the recipes are tasty and easy!If you decide to follow the seven-day plan, you won't be eating dairy, eggs, meat, or any oils (including oil and coconut oils) or drinking any alcohol, and you'll be limiting your fats to just walnuts, small amounts of avocados, and the fats that exist naturally in plant foods. You're also meant to minimize your salt and sugar intakes.The recipes are based on the foundation of building oatmeal-based bowls or waffles for breakfast, and then bowls, soups, or open-faced sandwiches for lunch and dinner. Since one of the rules is to not drink your calories, there are no smoothie or juice recipes.Part I of the book (which comprises the first 176 pages) is where the author outlines the programs, and he draws upon the latest studies to explain why a plant-based diet is so healthy. He takes the time to de-bunk the myths that you can't get enough calcium or protein from plants. Although I knew most of this information, it was a helpful review, and if you're new to plant-based eating, I think that the information can help alleviate any worries you might have about meeting your nutritional needs from plants.Part II (pages 177-279) contains a more detailed overview of what you can eat during the seven days, as well as quite a few recipes to get you started. I've only dipped my toe into the eating plan, so to speak, and have just been trying a few recipes, but my hope is to be diligent about following the plan for seven days, and, when I do, I will be sure to update my review with my results.

This is one of about 6 books we bought that were authored by Rip E. and John McDougall, MD. What they say has proved to be true for us. We have been doing this for 5 months and it has become our new eating lifestyle. If you read many of their books, get the most recent ones. A lot of the medical information is similar, but updated, BUT all the books have recipes and the more recent books have simpler and tastier recipes than earlier books. Having all those recipes from which to choose has made this diet easy to follow. Once we got the hang of it, we began to experiment making our own healthful and tasty recipes. It is like an adventure for us -- something we never got into as a couple in our 40+ years of marriage. Our old way was mostly woman in the kitchen and man pouring cereal or out at the BarBQ grill.I think it was easiest to do because we both did this diet together. We eased into it by studying and experimenting a little at a time over a period of one or two months before we were confident that we could live with this as our family diet going 'full time'.Side note: I guarantee that if you drop meat, dairy, oils and eliminate sugary and fried salty foods as much as possible, you can eat mostly organic healthy food from good quality grocery stores and you will notice that your food bills are LOWER.Bon appetite, and enjoy your life more!!

This is a great beginner book for the new plant based eater. Experienced vegans will find the recipes on the simple basic side. I love the Bowls because I am NOT a fan of sandwiches. He has many good bowl ideas! He has open faced sandwich recipes for those who love sandwiches. I would have liked to see more gluten free options and gluten free info, and subs for allergies like citrus. I'm allergic to citrus, and bananas. If you're highly motivated his plan is great. If you don't think you can go so strict so fast, you may need to step down slowly and I didn't see any info there about that. I took away a star for NO INDEX as I bought the kindle version. If you're publishing a book please include an index. There is also no Table of Contents. If you don't like cheaply published books, you won't like this one. All in all it was pretty good. Beginners will enjoy the ease and simplicity of becoming plant based.

Think you've heard it all because you've read so much about Whole Food Plant Based Eating? I thought so too, but I was wrong! Learned several things but the most shocking to me is what happens to our bodies when we sit for prolonged periods of time. Check out pages 156-158. I did the fix and immediately noticed a huge difference! I really didn't think I would. The Author has a great way of putting scientific information in easy to understand terms and he helps the reader figure out how this relates to their life.This is an excellent book and a great program. Even though it's called a "diet" you could do it long term just fine. This is a life changer, folks!

The information is presented in a way that anyone can "get it". Easy is my biggest desire for all my food and this is it! From quick breakfasts, to on the go dinners, it has it all! 100% plant strong and 100% doable for even the worst cooks like me who want to me healthy!!!

If your new to this way of eating, this is a very good book. If you're a seasoned plant based eater you may not be impressed. This book needs more recipes in it to be worth the price. It does have some good ideas about how to build a meal with different kinds of ingredients for people new to this lifestyle. Beginners tip- if you find some of the recipes bland, kick up the spices a notch until your taste buds have time to adjust. The book came in perfect condition and is printed in the USA.

Great program. Helps stop the craving for daily meat. Keeps you on the path of health. If you haven't broken the sugar habit or salt habit this plan will help.

Nice concise way to get started in the whole food plant based diet. No oil, no sugar, no salt, and eliminate the processed foods. It is a great book and a good read about a great way to live.

I am not really yet into stamps but I thought what a time I could have doing the winter when stuck inside more an also take a break from reading and learning something new.
